Holiday Kick-Off – Local Business Supports High School Sports
Riverside, California (December 9, 2011) – Vinod Desar, owner of the PostalAnnex+ on 19510 Van Buren Blvd, Ste F3, donated $600 each to Martin Luther King High School and to Poly High School in Riverside. The funds were used to support the sports teams’ activities and miscellaneous related expenses.
“Martin Luther King High and Poly High are located close to our store, and we wanted to show support for the families that live in the neighborhoods here,” says Desar. “Sports are a big part of a student’s high school experience, so we are excited to have an opportunity to support the athletic programs at these two schools.”
Martin Luther King High School and Poly Tech High School are part of the Riverside Unified School District. The Riverside Unified School District has won numerous awards at the regional, state and national level for its academic, sports, and visual and performing arts programs. High school athletics are very important in helping students achieve academic and personal success. According to a study by the United States Department of Education, athletes are 51 percent less likely to use drugs and 63 percent less likely to become teen parents. Studies performed in multiple states have found that students who participate in sports have higher GPAs and fewer absences.
