March 6, 2015

As winter is drawing to a close, it’s time once again to “spring forward” those clocks.  This Sunday, March 8, 2015 most of the United States will move their clocks ahead by one hour for Daylight Saving Time.  Each year when Daylight Saving rolls around, there’s always scuttlebutt about whether or not it’s really beneficial to change the time.  Wherever you fall on the issue, here are some ways to adjust to Daylight Saving, as recommended by Health Magazine.

Don’t wait until Sunday to change your clocks.  Set your clock ahead an hour Saturday evening, that way, you’ll be motivated to go to bed earlier.

Limit your alcohol intake over the weekend.  Alcohol can prevent you from reaching deeper stages of sleep, which, when combined with losing an hour of sleep, can make you feel even more tired Sunday.

If possible, give yourself extra time on Monday.  Those who have flexible work schedules may want to consider getting approval to arrive a little late on Monday.  It will help you get some extra much-needed sleep and avoid the Monday morning rush hour traffic that is full of sleep-deprived people.

If necessary, tweak your workout schedule.  Those who work out in the evening will have an extra hour of daylight to exercise outdoors.  However, if you’re going to be earlier, make sure to work out earlier to maintain the necessary three-hour window between exercise and bed so that you have enough time to wind down.  Those who prefer to work out in the morning should continue to do so, despite feeling tired from the time change as exercising can make you feel energized.
