How do I buy a mailing list?

Knowing how to buy a mailing list means you have to know what questions to ask.  Here are some for your consideration:

1. What is the source of the list?

2. How many times can you use the list?

3. Will you need to submit a copy of your mailing to the list vendor before you get a list?

4. How often is their database updated?

5. What percentage of names do they guarantee is deliverable?

6. What’s the cost? (Usually per 1,000 names)

7. Is there a minimum fee?

Who you choose to get your list from will potentially tell you about the quality of your list.  Large providers such as InfoUSA or SalesGenie.com are among the largest in the worlds, and therefore, very reliable.

Normally, when you buy a mailing list, you are licensed to use those names for one mailing.  Multiple-use mailing lists often are at a slightly higher rate.

If you are mailing to a sensitive name list, such as minors or senior adults, you may be required by the list provider to submit a copy of your ad before you can buy a mailing list.  This is to avoid attempts to defraud what sometimes are vulnerable individuals.

Many mailing list companies update quarterly if not more often.  Generally, they will guarantee that 85-90% of the list they give you will be valid names with addresses.  Because approximately 15% of the populations changes addresses each year, mailing list companies can’t guarantee 100% since the USPS may still be processing some Change of Addresses.

Typically, there is a minimum fee, such as $100, but names often are about $.06 to $.08 each unless you start to want a qualified mailing list.  If you want adults between the ages of 35-59 with household incomes more than $100,000 and are homeowners, your list will cost more than just all names and addresses within a selected ZIP code for example.

Buying a mailing list is relatively easy and is an excellent way to find the kind of customers or contacts you want for your business or organizations.  Knowing the right questions to ask can save you time and money.  You can take a trial run and build your own list by going to this sample page .
