While San Diego County has a large micro brewing industry, it’s taken a while for the breweries to build a presence in the southern parts of the county. One family-owned brewery operating out of Otay Mesa is out to change that. Border X Brewing opened their micro-brewery and tasting room in the fall of 2014 and quickly established themselves as a respected brewery. Despite being open for less than a year, Border X just opened a second tasting room in Barrio Logan in March 2014.
Border X is owned and operated by Marcelino Favela, his brother David, and his sons Ivan and Martin. Inspired to create a cross-cultural experience, Border X Brewing brews high quality craft beers by utilizing European brewing traditions and Latin American ingredients. The resulting brews offers beer connoisseurs unique and exciting new flavors. Border X’s signature brew, Blood Saison, which uses traditional Jamaica ingredients, won the bronze medal for specialty beer at the 2014 San Diego International Beer Festival.
In addition to providing the Otay Mesa community with great beer, Border X is lending their support to local artists by featuring their artwork in both tasting rooms and participating in local art crawls. By supporting artists from both sides of the US-Mexican border, Border X hopes to create a bi-cultural experience for their patrons.
If you purchase any artwork at one of the Border X tasting rooms that far away friends and family member would appreciate, send their way to help share the cross-cultural experience of South San Diego County. Stop by one of the Otay Mesa PostalAnnex locations to ship your artwork via UPS or FedEx. The friendly professionals at PostalAnnex can even compare shipping rates to find the best rate and service for shipping your packages.
