Those living in East Los Angeles, CA who are craving a different kind of pastry have just the bakery to go to: El Gallo Bakery. Located in the heart of East L.A., El Gallo customers can try a variety of Mexican baked goods, including traditional Mexican pan dulce, a sweet bread often eaten for breakfast or late supper.

Opened in 1949 by Magdalena Martinez-Huerta and her brother Lauro, El Gallo Bakery quickly became a popular East L.A. landmark.  Today, Magdalena’s son Jesus G. Huerta manages El Gallo.  While he has brought the bakery into the 21st century with modern equipment like huge mixers, ovens, sheeters, proffers and huge walk-in refrigerator, Jesus continues to maintain the flavors and superior customer service that made the bakery so popular.

Using the recipes Magdalena developed, the shop's pan dulce taste as if they'd been made in a traditional Mexican bakery.  El Gallo offers a variety of pan dulce like: conchas, a pastry made in the shape of a shell; compechanas, rectangular glazed pastries; and empanadas, turnovers filled pumpkin filling or jelly.  Along with their famous pan dulce, El Gallo Bakery offers a variety of baked treats including Mexican muffins, puff pastries cookies and much more.

After stopping by El Gallo Bakery, if you need to ship some pan dulce to out of town family and friends, stop by the East Los Angeles PostalAnnex where you can ship your items via UPS or FedEx.  The friendly professionals at PostalAnnex can even compare shipping rates to find the best rate and service for shipping your bread.
