With Halloween fast approaching on October 31, 2016, if you haven’t planned out this year’s costume, now is the time to take action. But, what if you’re at a loss for a great idea this year? First, decide if you’re doing a group or a solo costume, and then consider the genre you want. Do you want something scary or clever, historic or fantasy, simple or elaborate? Once you’ve answered these questions, you can scour the internet for ideas if you still need to decide on your exact costume. You can also pay a visit to your local costume shop.

For many people, October comes with Halloween festivities, which for some, means seeking out the adrenaline rush of a spooky attraction. The Quilter’s Newsletter recently made reference to The Haunted Quilt of Poy Sippi, a patchwork quilt in Oshkosh, WI which, in 1963, was said to be haunted. The family who owned the quilt claimed it moved about the house on its own, was tugged off beds, and was at the center of other strange occurrences.

Bees are an important part of our ecosystem because they are major pollinators of the flowering plants and agricultural crops we depend on. However, the Xerces Society, a non-profit organization which works to protect pollinators, reports that there are several species of bees in North America which are at risk of extinction. While it may seem like a single person cannot prevent the extinction of a species, things individuals can do their part to help protect the bees. One thing is to create a friendly environment in your backyard by selecting native plants which attract bees.
